This work develops a useful technique for the histopathological investigation of particles that are linked to gunshot residues in gunshot wounds.. Its scope as well as its limitations are clearly explained here.
The shooting residues are composed of particles that have or are not deflagrated from the primary explosive, of the propellant and projectile components, the cartridge and the weapon used.
Local and Hispanic literature still preserves the classic tattoo designation for a portion of the shooting residue. The latter are close to the weapon used, the place where the shot was fired and the gunshot wound.
The tattoo is the formation that is drawn around the entry hole, and provides important medical legal implications.
Your diagnosis (in a deceased victim) can be done with: 1) criminalistic method, by applying the dermotest technique; 2) thanatological method, by macroscopic study of the lesion; 3) histological method, consistent in the study
of gunshot wound tissue using the hematoxylin and eosin technique; y 4) by the presence of other particles indistinguishable from powder particles, that constitute a limitation of that technique.
The author develops the transparency technique, capable of revealing shot residue-binding particles without interference from the presence of other particles, which leads him to conclude that this technique has as its virtues its simplicity, economy and complementarity of that of hematoxylin and eosin.
This novel work is placed within the reach of both the forensic doctor and the criminal lawyer, as well as the students of both disciplines.
An extraordinary photographic annex introduces the reader to the fascinating universe of microscopy of these lesions, and their simple observation stimulates the desire to know more about them and leads spontaneously to the text and other works mentioned in it.
